Fanvids Anyone?

Just out of curiosity more than anything, how do you lovely people make them? Specifically, where do you get the clips from? I suppose with a fandom like Torchwood or Dr Who, it's easier because you can get them from the DVDs but for a fandom like Hollyoaks, there are no DVDs as it's a long running soap so I was just wondering, where do you get them from? Then are there any good free programmes that allow you to edit them together or will Windows Media Player be good enough?

On To Pastures New

Hi, me again. After a long, long struggle with writing Janto, I have finally come to the conclusion that my heart is no longer in it anymore. It's been like that for nearly a year now. I promised myself that I would finish 'In Sickness' because my readers deserved an ending and then hopefully my muse and my enthusiasm would pick up once more. Sadly, this has not happened and I can't write what I myself no longer believe in any more. I loved Janto from the bottom of my heart and writing them taught me so much which I hope to be able to continue in one form or another.

You as readers have been amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better group and I am truly grateful to everyone. Especially royalladyemma, without whom 'In Sickness' would never have been as good as it was. I'd also like to thank pmw10261, czarina_kitty, and jantogurl10 for offering to beta my as yet unwritten janto fic. Sadly that will never get written now.

Over the last few weeks I have found thay my new love is for Stendan (Ste/ Brendan from Hollyoaks). Their tragic love story with its intricate layers, twists, turns and complexity has completely enthralled me and I've found my love for them has now far eclipsed what I had for Janto. If there's any Stendan lovers out there, I would really love to hear from you, maybe we can fangirl sometime and share posts or fic or something, but for now, I am going to have to say goodbye to all my lj fans. I have had the best time in this little community over the last four years and I wish you all the very best.

In Search of Beta

Okay, so you know how I said I had a new fic in the works a few week back? Well, the good news is that I still have it, the bad news is that I apparently lack any sort of writing ability and so was hoping one of you kind souls would be willing to be my beta. Now, be careful when agreeing to do this as I tend to like to bounce ideas around with people and really talk through the characters and their motivations and whether their behaviour is the right course of action etc, so sadly you won't be able to get away with crossing the 't's and dotting the 'i's as it were. I know my previous beta really enjoyed doing it and I think it is an enjoyable experience and will hopefully make you feel part of the story and the character's journey as well.

Now I've turned you all off the idea, I should probably say what the premise of the story is. Basically, it's an AU, Jack and Ianto are living together and have been together about three years when Gray - the brother whom Jack hasn't seen since their mother's death - arrives on their doorstep. Needless to say, he has a hidden agenda and Ianto does end up getting caught very much in the crossfire. I won't say too much more about it as it will get quite dark but if you are interested, just comment here or PM me and I'll explain more about the story and the central event which it pivots around.

I should probably also say that Ianto is a type one (insulin dependent) diabetic and it really is a central feature of the plot so any working knowledge of diabetes and its complications would be a huge bonus. Don't worry if you don't have one, we'll work it out together or use a bit of artistic license

The Running Jump That is Writing

Okay, I really just need to get this out of my head as it's driving me mad and so I thought what better place than lj?  Basically, some of you will know that I've been trying to get back into writing at the moment. However, the problem is that the only scenes I seem to have been able to write have been what I call 'running jump scenes' where basically, I enter with my pen at the jumping part, wanting to write all these amazingly complex characters with developmental story arcs and emotions but fall flat on my face because, of course, such emotion and character development requires a build up. In other words, the running bit of the running jump. I don't have the words or the imagination to make the build up and it just frustrates me so much. I see all this beautifully written fic, or beautifully made fanvids that capture emotion so perfectly that I know I can never live up to that and create such heart breaking love stories with beautifully developed characters who are complex and flawed and yet perfect in their own ways.

Furthermore, I know my views of the characters I want to write has changed, it has become more complex and 3D; they're not teenage girls in men's bodies, they are fully grown, adult men and so should act as such, and I want to show that so much but don't have the plot to go with it and it's just so frustrating.

Anyone else ever had these sorts of problems?

New Fic

Hi, it feels like ages since I've posted here. Well, it has been ages. Over six months I think. Mainly my fault, my life went down a wrong turn for about four months and so I had to drag it back onto track. I think I'm there now though and life has never been better *touch wood* and so I was just posting really to say hi to everyone and also just to see if anyone would be interested in another fic I'm planning on writing. General gist would be it's an AU, Gray is Jack's long-lost brother who turns up on his and Ianto's doorstep one night and then proceeds to live with them for several months. He comes across as a very nice guy: good job, good girlfriend etc, but events happen that make it very clear that this is not the case and the only person who isn't aware of it is Jack who doesn't find out until somewhere near the end of the story. That's the general gist for now, there'll also be Rhys/ Ianto friendship in it and Owen as Ianto's brother and his wife Tosh and their daughter Kimmy.

I've noticed that a lot of people have drifted away from fandom and I suppose I just wanted to know if it was worthwhile pursuing it.

Chapter Fifty Two – one week later

“Ianto, have you got those files I needed?” asked Tosh as she entered the Tourist Office.

“Yep. They should be on the desk,” replied Ianto as he indicated vaguely towards the desk from where he was rearranging some tourist brochures that had been knocked over when some over-excited and, admittedly, very drunk tourists had staggered in asking if this was the way to Amarillo.

“Yep. Found them. Thanks,” said Tosh as she located the manila files and scooped them up. Instead of leaving however, she took the time to survey her friend. Over the past week or so, he had definitely improved from the wreck he had been in the days leading up to the trial and this was all well and good, but she couldn’t help thinking that he was doing rather too well.

Once he’d finished with the brochures, Ianto turned round and was surprised to see Tosh still standing awkwardly by the desk. “Was there anything else you needed?” he asked as he walked towards her.

Tosh shook her head. “No, I just...”She looked at him. “You are okay, aren’t you?” she asked as she gave him a searching look as if she could read his mind.

Ianto inclined his head and gave her a small smile. “Yes. Thank you.” Tosh hesitated and glanced over at the shelves. “Really, Tosh. I’m okay.”He gave her another small genuine smile. “I’m coping.”

Tosh nodded. “You sure?”

“Yeah. Jack’s been great and I’ve had some time to get my head around it all and catch up on some sleep and...it’s okay.”

Tosh hummed non-committally as she ran her fingers along the grain of the wood on the desk.  “What about your mum and your sister?”

Ianto was contemplative as he moved around her and into the small office behind the beaded curtains. “I spoke to Rhiannon,” he admitted quietly.

Tosh followed him. “How did that go?” she asked casually as she leant against the doorframe.

Ianto shrugged as he turned to face her and leant against the desk behind him, hands in his pockets, legs crossed at the ankles. He was silent for a while, as if he was trying to work out how to describe it. “It was awkward,” he finally admitted with a sad smile.

“It would be,” said Tosh neutrally. “A lot has happened.”

“Mmm,” Ianto inclined his head in acknowledgement. “She hates Mam.”

“She would.”

“Mmm.” Ianto scuffed the toe of his foot along the floor.

In Sickness and in Health (50/55)

Title: In Sickness and in Health

Author: welsh_scotsman

Author's note: A jury in the UK is made up of 12 people. Initially, unanimity is required for a verdict to be reached. However, if that is not the case, a minimum of 10:2 in favour of a verdict will be accepted. Anything less results in a hung jury and a new jury would have to be sworn in

Summary: Ianto looks after everyone, but who looks after him?
